The Breeders Cup is just around the corner as many of the world’s top horses do battle for a staggering prize fund of $28 million. This year’s two day event is set to take place over the 3rd and 4th of November at Del Mar race course.
The Breeders’ Cup Classic is the key event of the meeting and of the international flat racing calendar. The year ending race has a purse of $6 million and is targeted for many of the top middle distance dirt horses. The race is a grade 1 for 3 year olds and above and is ran over a distance of 1 ¼ miles.
The highest rated horse in the world is Arrogate who is back to defend his crown following his triumph over odds on favourite California Chrome in the 2016 running of the race. Following this Arrogate went over to Meydan and won the Dubai World Cup with a staggering victory which put him as the highest rated flat horse since the great Frankel.
Following several months off Arrogate returned to the track but ran no race and was turned over at odds of 1/20 in and finished 4th of the 5 runners in the race. Arrogate again ran below expectations when finishing 2nd of the seven runners at odds of 7/10.
The Breeders cup odds have Arrogate as the 5/2 second favourite to return to form and cement himself as still the best horse in training. Check out the infographic below that covers all you need to know about the Breeders Cup and the key contenders from the US and Europe.
